The Polish economy is expected to grow by 3.3% in 2021. The recovery in trade in the euro area combined with improved confidence and increased private consumption starts to boost the markets. The projected rebound is weaker than previously anticipated because of the new strains of COVID-19 and the uneven pace of vaccination in Europe. The driving force behind this growth will be the country’s booming consumer spending and investment activity, which should increase at similar speeds over the next few years. Net trade will also impact GDP as exports and imports are predicted to grow around the same pace until 2022 at least. In 2019, Poland was ranked #40 in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business index (Sources: World Bank, Euler Hermes, and Fitch Solutions).

Female workers are entitled to 20 weeks of maternity leave. The mother, as a rule, must use up 14 weeks. In addition parents are entitled to 32 weeks of parental leave. In total, 52 weeks may be available for care after the birth of a child. It should be noted, however, that this dimension increases with the greater number of children born at one birth.
For the period of 20-week maternity leave, the person is entitled to an allowance in the amount of 100% of the allowance calculation basis. The basis of the assessment is the average salary of the employee in the last 12 months of work. 100% of the allowance is also paid for the first 6 weeks of parental leave, and for the remaining period it is 60%. If the employee submits an application within 21 days after giving birth to take full parental leave (52 weeks) immediately after the maternity leave, then the allowance will be paid for the whole year in the amount equal to 80% of the basis of the allowance assessment.
Fathers are entitled to paternity leave of 2 weeks. Fathers may take this leave in one or two parts at any time they choose. They have until the child is 24 months old to take paternity leave. The employer is obliged to grant paternity leave at the written request of the employee-father. The application should be submitted no later than seven days before the commencement of the holiday.
New fathers are also entitled to two fully paid days off work due to the birth of a child.
After the maternity leave has been used up, fathers have the right to parental leave of up to 32 weeks, which is granted to both parents or – if they agree so – to one of them.
