Economic growth in Egypt will rise above 5% a year from 2022/23

In the aftermath of 2011’s internal political crisis and revolutionary uprising, Egypt was able to recover from its economic slump. The COVID-19 outbreak, however, caused the Egyptian GDP growth to fall from 5.6% to 3.6%, declared the Crédit Agricole Group. Still, Egypt was one of the few countries in the Africa – and the rest of the world – with a positive growth rate in 2020. According to the IMF‘s April 2021 forecast, GDP growth is projected to fall further to 2.5% in 2021 and recover to 5.7% in 2022, subject to a post-pandemic global economic recovery. The government’s swift and prudent policy response coupled with IMF support ensured that the Egyptian economy would not falter in times of need. In 2020, Egypt was ranking #114 in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business index (Sources: The Economist, Crédit Agricole Group, and IMF).
