Chinese economic growth on track for robust recovery: World Bank

China’s economic activity has recovered swiftly and will reach 8.5% this year, with growth at 5.8% in 2022 if the sanitary situation remains under control, says the OECD; meanwhile foreign investment is a key engine of its continued robustness while consumption recovers only gradually. The Chinese economy is finally recovering. Consumption will be the primary contributor to growth in 2021 and 2022, followed by investment and net exports which are expected to increase temporarily before retreating back down again. KPMG notices that China has surpassed the US to become the world’s largest recipient of foreign direct investment last year. With a vast domestic market and more opening-up opportunities for foreigners, China remains an important destination for investments. In 2020, China ranked #31 in the World Bank’s Ease of Doing Business index (Sources: OECD, ADB, and KPMG).
